In December 2023, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice certified a new class-action law suit that alleges that Roundup—the most commonly used herbicide in the world—causes cancer, namely non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). The certification decision is a significant milestone in the effort to hold Monsanto and Bayer accountable for the alleged harm caused by Roundup, and its active ingredient glyphosate.
I wonder how long it will be until our governments provide immunity from lawsuits to manufacturers of pesticides, like is being attempted in Idaho. If vaccine manufacturers have it....
Thank you Linda for this reporting. What a travesty this whole business is. It is hard to even try to imagine the impact that decades of poisons being poured and sprayed has had on the planet. And that our so-called leaders have chosen to collude....well, i guess that's not a surprise really, is it?
Good post. I've been concerned about glyphosate and atrazine for many years. Our farm was in an area of a lot of cropping. The farm across the road from us was sold to a nursery sod operation and converted over to sod fields. They are very heavily sprayed with products such as Killex. We had a lot of problems with dogs dying of cancer -- two beautiful sable Rough Collies got very aggressive lymphoma and died within 60 days of each other. Then Don got cancer and died. Many of our neighbours had deaths from cancer -- one couple just down the road from us both died from cancer within a short few years after leasing their farm to be used for sod farming. As soon as Don died, I got out of there. I had a friend (now deceased) who was a top epidemiologist (really did "write the book" on epidemiology), and worked on such things as determining the dangers of asbestos many years ago. He felt that some of the "other" ingredients in these herbicides were probably at least if not more dangerous than the product (solvents, etc.). When our dogs were dying, he told me that the whole system favours the manufacturers because it puts the onus of proving safety on the manufacturers, and makes it very difficult for those who attempt to prove that a product is unsafe or risky. He felt that that was all bass-ackwards.
